The Islands Caribbean Cookshop - The Well Review
486 Front St W Unit WM34, Toronto, ON · King West & Entertainment District
Visited the Islands Caribbean Cookshop on Aug 21st, 2024.
We entered The Well building through the southeast side, took the escalator down, and ended up at the lower food concourse. After doing a little loop, we decided to check out Islands Caribbean Cookshop. I asked if I could try a taste of the ackee and salt fish. The first server checked with another, and I was given a small sample. It was pretty good, so I decided to go for it and ordered a full portion along with two festivals. My girlfriend wasn’t feeling hungry and wasn’t interested in trying anything.
When I got to the register, the total came to a whopping $21.35! I was honestly shook. Why such a ridiculous price for something that should’ve been, like, $10 tops? I paid up but asked if they could throw in something extra on the side, like a couple of plantains. Both girls behind the counter were like, “Nope, can’t do that.”
So, here’s the deal: The food was good, but the price? Straight-up robbery. You can get this same dish at most Jamaican spots for way less, and it’ll taste just as good.
Maybe this is just how it is at The Well food court, with crazy overhead costs forcing vendors to jack up prices. But honestly, we’re not going back to find out. The executives who work in the building can afford to write off the costs
