STACKT market Review

28 Bathurst St, Toronto, ON · King West & Entertainment District

5/5 Editor's Pick

On Sunday, August 4th, 2024, I attended Blockobana at STACKT market, and it was a hit.

STACKT was an ideal venue, comfortably hosting the throngs of people who turned out. The event featured multiple spaces where different DJs spun a mix of dancehall, R&B, and rap, catering to the varied musical tastes of the crowd.

Willie Chin, a beloved figure in Toronto’s music scene, was the star attraction and did not disappoint his legion of fans. His set was a perfect blend of energy and rhythm, keeping the dance floor packed and moving. The turnout was fantastic, and the atmosphere electric, making for an unforgettable event.

For those unfamiliar with Willie Chin, also known as Warren Hoo, he’s a versatile DJ and producer with a global reach. He’s especially renowned for his work with the Black Chiney sound system, which masterfully blends Caribbean music with other genres. His talent for remixing tracks has earned him the moniker “The Remix King.” His stage name, “Willie Chin,” combines a childhood nickname and a common Jamaican moniker for people of Asian descent, reflecting his unique background and cultural influence. His humility and dedication to music are truly inspiring, making him a standout figure in the industry.

Overall, Blockobana at STACKT was a fantastic event, well organized, and a credit Toronto’s outdoor party scene.
