Miss Likklemore's Review

433 King St W, Toronto, ON · King West & Entertainment District

2/5 Not Recommended

Ate at Miss Likklemore’s on Sept 30th & Oct 2nd, 2022:

In a nutshell, Miss Likklemore’s is not a place for authentic Jamaican food. It’s a place to socialize and drink from a plethora of rum selections.

Likklemore is Jamaican patois for a “little more”. After trying many of the dishes on two different occasions, we unfortunately don’t want a little more of anything.

A rundown:
1. Mac and cheese: 6/10
2. The jerk chicken: undercooked and a 3/10
3. The oxtail: of two giant pieces one was tough, and the other tender, but the flavours didn’t go well 4/10
4. The crab and coconut rice dish: the rice was too wet and tasted like a Thai concoction, and the crab was previously frozen and just not good 3/10
5. Snapper Escovitch: was bland battered fried fish with a strange green sauce on the side with slivers of carrots and onions on the side with very little vinegar 3/10
6. Oxtail patties: the filling was too dry 4/10
7. Cod fritters: too salty and lacking flavour 3/10
8. Stewed beans: kidney beans and broad beans with turkey meat, weird but a 5/10
9. Fried plantain: they had sliced plantain chip, not real fried plantain

Missing from all these dishes were any hint of garlic, thyme, Jamaican pimentos, cloves, or scotch bonnet peppers. Also missing was the overnight marination of the fish, oxtail, and jerk chicken. A must for Caribbean meat dishes.

Also conspicuous by its absence on the menu was the classic Jamaican rice and peas.

In our efforts to support an upscale Caribbean themed establishment all theses dishes set us back many hundreds of dollars. So go for a drink if you must, but stick to your mother’s or your auntie’s home cooking.
