Gusto 101 Review

101 Portland St, Toronto, ON · King West & Entertainment District

Update Feb 2018

Delivered by Uber Eats

The funghi pasta dish was missing the damn mushrooms and had very little sauce! The bruschetta was full of mushrooms, but tasteless. I've gotten the pasta many times, and this was the most disappointing. Not worth the nearly $50.00 for two items that seem like they were made by children. This place is a giant HIT or MISS!

An UPDATE: August 2016

Went back and had two pasta dishes. I can't remember the names of these dishes, but the pasta was home-made and the sauces were home-made. Delicious. I'm not a huge pasta lover, and when I do eat it, I think I make the best pasta. However, nothing beats fresh, home spun pasta done al dente. Go to Gusto for the pasta dishes.

Went to Gusto 101 with a party of four on Nov 12th 2013.

Here are the pro's and con's of the food we ate:

We had the Escarola and Insalata a-Gusto salads. Both were very light and tasty. The bruschetta Guanciale e Taleggio was an inoffensive warm heap of spinach on a crusty piece of bread, although the thinly sliced beef cheek was way too tough and bland. The Branzino alla Griglia was not really to my liking; the sea bass was overdone and flavourless. The Pollo al Mattone was tender, but served with rapini (I don't like rapini, but my friend does). The Risotto al Frutti Di Mare was a good tasting risotto. Finally, we had a dessert sample platter. Of the four desserts presented, the Sticky Toffee Pudding and the Tortino di Mele were 5 star winners!

We sat upstairs and the ambiance was young and trendy. Our server was Italian and full of enthusiasm (forgot his name) and tried to sell us a bottle of the house oil that came with the free starter bread. We went right at 6pm and it wasn't busy, but an hour later it was hard to see an empty table.

Overall, I would go back for the dessert in a heartbeat.
