Platinum Yucatán Princess All Suites & Spa Resort Review

Calle Quinta Avenida MZ 20 LT 006, Playa del Carmen, Mexico

4/5 Recommended

Stayed here from Sept 19-Oct 3 2021

The Good:
Beautiful place, nice well kept grounds, friendly helpful staff. The place makes you feel good.
The gorgeous swim out pool just off your room is a must have. We stayed in room 2242, and found the location just private enough, but close to the main pool around the corner.
The entertainment was very good. The Michael Jackson Tribute, the Fire show, and Burleque shows were great!
The All-White party Fridays are great. When we were there they had an American crowd on the first Friday that really turned the party out. They totally made the night. The following Friday a younger more EDM and Spanish pop crowd were doing their thing. The DJ plays for the crowd, which is great.
The indoor nightclub was great on a Thursday. A great way to socialize.
The natural wildlife was nice, and they treat their cats well.
The buffet was the best for food selection. You won't get any better than the buffet on the adults only side. We tried the sister hotel and it's not as good. Overall the food at the buffet was 5-7/10.
The sister hotel side has a nice clean beach and water (seaweed free) that costs $20 for the day (see below).

The Bad:
The other restaurants at the adults only side were not good (didn't go to the individual restaurants at the sister hotel). The Japanese food did not even remotely taste like Japanese. The other two restaurants had food that was nicely presented, but not delicious. Even the shrimp was not delicious. You can't cook everything in clarified butter and vexpect it to taste good. Grilling food on an outdoor BBQ would have been better.
The pool had bugs and whatnot in it a fewu times, but when we called to have it cleaned out we were told it would be taken care of but wasn't. We found ways to clean it ourselves since they don't provide the equipment to do it yourself.
The lighting in bathroom is poor. Ladies you'll have no idea what you look like, because the lighting is not accurate especially if you care about what you look like at night. Speaking of which --- there is no full length mirror. A must in every 4+ star hotel.
Beach vendors can be relentless and you have to say "no gracias" a couple of times an hour. But there is a guy who sells nice silver jewelry, so take some cash to the beach. It's not worth going to the sister hotel side for the nice clean beach, because you will get hasselled even more, and the beach and water on the adults only side is not too bad.
ALL the activities are at the sister hotel side. Ballooning over the water, beach volleyball, archery, pellet gun shooting, kayaking, and jet skiing. I would not recommend the jet ski's. Mine was hard to maneuver and the life jackets are not sanatized and smell bad. Not worth the money.
The cocktails are terrible. The rum tastes watered down unless you get the Bacardi Solerno(?) from the pink colored bar at night. I don't like the tequila that's free in the room nor did I find a good replacement, so can't comment on that.

Overall, I would recommend the Princess Yucatan. It was a nice experience for two adults wanting to get away and enjoy their birthdays in warm weather. If they make some very simple changes they can be an amazing place instead of just good.
