Zumiez Review

220 Yonge St Suite N126, Toronto, ON · Downtown Yonge & Dundas

3/5 Mixed

I went in the store on Dec 27th 2021 to get a few things for my 11 year old nephew. I was a assisted by a pleasant young sales girl and picked out two t-shirts. When I went up to cash to pay there was a hobo type fella trying to sell something to a female cashier. She acted as though she couldn’t hear him and was shouting at him, then all of a sudden barked at me “are you ready”? Well, he was still standing in front of her and blocking my way, and the cashier chose to pretend he wasn’t there.

So I said to him, do you mind?, I’m trying to buy things, so you’ll have to move over there and maintain social distance of six feet and I pointed to where he should stand. So he moved to where I pointed. I had scanned him for any impulsive attack tendencies, and visible weapons since I do that in my regular job as a nurse with some sketchy visitors to ICU.

I pretty much handled the issue for the thankless cashier who we’ll call “KB1173”, yet she continued to be brusque with me when I asked about one of the shirts being half price. “This is the one that you’ll get for half price” she barked. I asked why that one, and she again barked “that’s the way it is.”

Now I was getting angry, the fella had left by now, but she hadn’t left the moment of discomfort or irritation with him. She was taking out her aggression on me. I called her out on exactly what she was doing. I actually handled the situation better that she did and she was still being.verbally aggressive. At the same time the transaction was going through she was still running her mouth , defending her rudeness toward me. So right after paying by credit card I demanded a refund.

That’s when cashier number KS0767 strolled up and asked what was going on. I briefly explained what had transpired, and after taking some time to understand the situation he could clearly see that the former cashier was an aggressive person who couldn’t handle a little stress courteously while keeping in mind that I was a paying customer. He helped me out and I was satisfied, because he wanted to make it right. I allowed him to make it right.

However, I now plan on going back to that store in the future because my nephew likes the t-shirts. Will I have to encounter aggressive cashier KB1173? Will this happen again? Because cashier girl needs some retraining, or a new job preferably not with humans or animals.

It’s her, or your customers Zumiez at the Eaton Centre.
This could have been a 1 star experience if it wasn’t for cashier #2.
