Spicy Grillz Review

We decided to give Spicy Girllz in Moncton, New Brunswick a try, ordering in, hoping for a taste of Jamaica. Instead, we got a taste of somebody’s bad idea of Jamaican food.
The “stewed chicken”, supposedly a staple – the actual liquid stew was missing in action. What we got were cut-up chicken pieces playing hide and seek with dumplings, both sharing a past of being frozen, then unceremoniously reheated and served to unsuspecting customers.
The traditional Jamaican fritters, expected to be a delightful fried bread-like treat, were a letdown. They appeared as an oily, yellow concoction, having an identity crisis.
As for the Jamaican rice and peas, it seemed they too forgot their roots. Missing the thyme, coconut milk, Allspice and the other necessary Caribbean seasonings, it was simply a container of rice crying out for help.
The jerk chicken had the look but lacked the spirit. Not jerk. Just darkened chicken.
The saving grace, if you can call it that, was the ackee and saltfish (not pictured, because we ate it). It was alright, but not something we'd miss if we never had it again.
In conclusion, our experience eating the food from Spicy Girllz Jamaican food restaurant -delivered- was like opening boxes full of promise, only to be disappointed . There's flavor, and then there's the idea of flavor – we got served the latter.
