Sorrentino's Downtown Review
10162 100 St NW, Edmonton, AB
Went for dinner on Jan 31 2023 at 8:30pm.
Sorrentino’s in downtown Edmonton is a good enough restaurant for where it’s located (see photo), and if you‘ve never been to restaurants serving authentic Italian food. This is definitely not “fine dining” as they stated on OpenTable.
The appetizers in the photo were forgettable. I can’t even conjure up the taste as I’m writing this review. The beet salad was light and refreshing for the -10C weather outside. Perhaps better served as a summer salad in the future.
Their mains were a disappointment. The beef ribs tasted like frozen boxed ribs with a red (not au jus) sauce. The pasta on the side tasted of the same seasoning as Bar 94’s mash potatoes. Do these restaurants get their packaged goods all from the same place?
The veal dish were slices of veal smothered in a yellow creamy sauce, over a mashed potato with vegetables on the side. Not exactly what I was expecting at all, since I can buy food like this at Costcos if I wanted to.
The cocktails were tasty, but after drinking two in row and not feeling a buzz, obviously contained very little liquor.
Dessert was good. However, their pistachio cheese cake did not outshine their light and delicious tiramisu.
Service was friendly but inadequate. We had to encourage our male server to clean our table cloth, and offer us flat water in a bottle.
Two stars out of 5 stars for the summer salad and tiramisu. Not worth the price tag.
