Mar-Kal Property Management Review

525 Chaplin Crescent, Toronto, ON · Midtown: Yonge & Eglinton

2/5 Not Recommended

I've lived in one of these properties for several years, and my apartment is more than decent. I was lucky, because the people who moved out had some fixer-up abilities. However, I've gazed inside other Eldebron properties and apartments, and they are very old...I'm talking 50+ years old! Maintained yes, but not to a standard that say a young upwardly mobile 20-something or 30-something would find suitable. The locations are the selling point. Bathurst & Claxton, Chaplin Crescent etc. Nice looking neighbourhoods, still close to downtown, but safe for a woman to be walking home at 3 o'clock in the morning without getting hassled.

The superintendent "Frank" at my location is a racist old man prone to violent outbursts who really should retire, but probably has no money to do so. He is also prone to entering people's apartment and snooping around (caught him on video a long while back and had words with him). The Landlord "Mr. Kalifer" is so cheap he won't reimburse you for the cost of fixing say your lock that won't unlock suddenly in the night when you arrive home - and you had to get a locksmith to get in your apartment at 12:30am.

Other than that they are fairly prompt at fixing the stripped washers/valves on the taps when they start dripping (every 18 months), or spraying for nocturnal house centipedes (which exist to control the myriad of other unseen bugs) if you call and ask for pest control.
You have to be okay with unscheduled maintenance as well, because they hardly ever post notes as to when they are going to be banging and clanging around in the building renovating. That includes, the water being shut off for various reasons several times a year.

Oh, and the rent. Well you get what you pay for right? As long as it remains under $930.00 a month for this large one bedroom with windows in every room, and hardwood floors we are taking our time in looking for another place.
